SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT
Under direction of the Special Education department, serve as liaison administrator between the office of Special Education and all programs under Institutional Education that the district serves. This person will lead the education activities, providing direction and development of curriculum and instruction and other matters related to special education. They will plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate special education programs and services under the direct supervision of the Special Education Department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Instructional Services
- Supervise the special education program including planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating services.
- Ensure due process compliance of special education activities, including assessment and student placement.
- Ensure an appropriate curriculum, program, and continuum of services are developed and implemented for special education eligible students, including 504 accommodations.
- Keep District staff and community informed of the special education program.
- Work with DCYF, DSHS, and Intuitional Education for Washington State to ensure coordination of special education activities with existing District curriculum, programs, and state and District assessments.
- Oversee the development of special education summer services.
- Participate in the planning, delivery of services, and equipping of special education classrooms.
- Coordinate speech, hearing, occupational and physical therapy services for the District.
- Analyze special education documents to ensure due process compliance, including assessments/placement.
- Review student records and record-keeping practices to ensure an appropriate curriculum, program, and continuum of services are developed and implemented for special education eligible students, including 504 accommodations.
Financial Management
- Assist with budget planning for special education regarding all Institutional Education grant funds.
- Assist with completion of federal, state, and local special education reports to ensure accuracy of information and filing deadlines are met to obtain funds.
General Administration and Leadership
- Serve as a task group leader for special education related tasks as directed.
- Develop and recommend policies and programs addressing the needs of students with disabilities who are eligible for special education program placement.
- Keep informed of all legal requirements governing the special education and Institutional Education areas.
- Communicate with District staff and community to improve cooperation and develop an understanding of existing programs.
Personnel
- Assist with the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of certificated and classified staff.
- Coordinate and monitor the allocation of special education certificated and classified staff to the buildings and overall program.
- Evaluate staff as assigned.
- Assist in the planning of departmental and District staff development/in-service activities.
Professional Preparation and Scholarship
- Continue professional study and activity.
- Utilize current knowledge on educational and administrative matters.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in education with a major in Special Education or appropriate related field.
- Successful experience as a classroom teacher and/or service provision.
- Evidence of experience and training needed to perform the functions described in the Supervisor of Special Education job description.
Certification and Licenses
- Continue professional certification and study.
- Washington State Teaching Certification with appropriate endorsement.
- Washington State Administrative Certificate
- Successful fingerprint and background check.
